BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio- People trying to send a letter or visit federal government offices Thursday found the doors closed.
The St. Clairsville, Ohio Post Office posted a sign on their door Thursday explaining why they were closed.
The reason for these closures is the national day of mourning for the late President Jimmy Carter. President Biden issued an executive order deeming Jan. 9. a day of mourning.
River News Network confirmed that the Social Security Administration and local post offices closed along with most other federal offices. But many local banks remained open.
USA Today reports that trading on the New York Stock Exchange will also be closed.
Post offices and most agencies will reopen Friday, Jan. 10.
Carter died December 29, 2024 at age 100. He served as U.S. President from 1977 to 1981.
