ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – The Lansing Senior Center is closing operations at its current site and moving to a new one.

Belmont County Commissioners announced the move in their Wednesday meeting, explaining that the county is canceling its commercial lease agreement with the Moran Family Center LLC for the current Senior Center premises located at 68583 Scott Street in Lansing. The effective date of cancellation is March 16.

The new Lansing Senior Center location will be at 55505 National Road in Bridgeport at the East Central Ohio Education Service Center. Commissioners approved a $1,200 per month rental agreement for the space.

Commissioners said the move was part of a “lengthy” process and that the senior citizens wanted more space and amenities that the old location could not provide. They said the former location was not “optimal” for the senior citizens. They added that the Lansing seniors are a very active group.

Commissioners also approved an agreement between Belmont County and the Board of Trustees of the Jefferson Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority, operating as JB Green Team, and the Belmont County Sheriff to provide environmental policing services to the waste authority. The waste authority will compensate Belmont County $89,098 per year for the service.

Anita Petrella, Executive Director of the JB Green Team, told commissioners that her office pays for a deputy to investigate illegal dumping. She said there could be instances of people dumping a mattress or deer carcass in a recycling bin. The bin sites have cameras, she said, so the suspect’s license plates are often visible and the deputy can investigate.

Petrella stressed that JB Green Team pays Belmont County for the deputy’s work.

Commissioners also approved an agreement for engineering services with Hammontree & Associates for an amount not to exceed $14,550 for County Road 82 (Airport Road) pavement rehabilitation plans based upon the recommendation of Belmont County Engineer Terry Lively.

They also entered into a contract with Popa Consulting in a lump sum not to exceed $44,500 for the 2025 full bridge inspection program for Belmont County based upon Lively’s recommendation.
