Local man faces extradition after allegedly stealing a car that was unlocked, had engine running

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – An Ohio man landed in the Jefferson County Jail after an alleged crime of opportunity presented itself at a local gas station, according to Chester, West Virginia police.

Justin Allan Davis, 37, of Irondale, allegedly stole a 2006 Buick sedan from Chaney’s gas station in Chester just after 6 a.m. Friday morning.

The Buick’s owner, an East Liverpool, Ohio woman, reportedly left the vehicle unlocked with the engine running while she dashed into Chaney’s convenience store.

Davis was reportedly wandering in the area on foot. He allegedly stole the Buick and took off across the Jennings Randolph Bridge into Ohio.

Authorities used surveillance footage and social media tips to identify Davis as a suspect. They issued a warrant for his arrest for Grand Larceny and entered the Buick into a national stolen vehicle database.

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office recovered the Buick in Salineville, Ohio around 4 p.m.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies took Davis into custody without incident around 6:30 p.m. in the Irondale area.

Davis is being held at the Jefferson County Jail in Steubenville as a fugitive from justice. Chester Police say Davis will be extradited to West Virginia to face additional charges.
