Officials report possible active shooter at area college

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio – The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media Monday night that there was a possible shooter on the campus of Muskingum University.

The sheriff’s office said law enforcement officials were at the scene, which they said was “unsecured.” They asked that everyone avoid the area.

Muskingum University issued a notice on its website that people currently on campus should shelter-in-place.

Muskingum University is located off of Interstate 70, about 70 miles east of Columbus in the village of New Concord in Muskingum County between Cambridge and Zanesville. The school’s website states that around 1,500 undergraduate students are enrolled there with additional students enrolled in graduate and other programs.
