BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – In their regular Wednesday meeting, the Belmont County Board of Commissioners approved several financial actions and infrastructure initiatives designed to improve local services and facilities.
Several fund transfers were discussed and approved. The board confirmed two transfers within funds and four transfers between funds, with 16 additional transfers deemed appropriate to meet budgetary needs. According to commissioners, these measures are expected to streamline county finances and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
Travel and Personnel Decisions
A further motion addressed county employee travel. The board granted permission for one employee in the Department of Job and Ending Services to travel to Cambridge, Ohio in April and one employee in the Recorder’s office to journey to Dublin, Ohio, as well as travel for senior center employees from Belmont County to Cambridge, Ohio, in May.
Infrastructure and Facility Upgrades
Commissioners discussed infrastructure improvements at the Sargus Juvenile Center. With bids to be advertised for remodeling projects—encompassing updates to the girls’ restrooms, showers, and overall facility optimization—the board emphasized the importance of maintaining modern, safe, and efficient spaces for the juveniles. Sargus Juvenile Center serves multiple counties, including Harrison, Belmont, Monroe, and Guernsey.
Bids
Commissioners made a motion to turn over all bids received for the Belmont County Engineer’s asphalt resurfacing project on County Road 5, also known as Crescent Road, outside St. Clairsville. Belmont County Engineer Terry Lively will review the bids and make his recommendation. He estimates the project to cost $509,408.
