BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Belmont County is taking a significant step toward evaluating and expanding its water capacity by seeking qualifications from hydrogeologic firms to conduct testing and environmental investigations for a potential water source north of Bellaire.
At their regular Wednesday meeting, the Belmont County Commissioners approved a motion to advertise to request qualifications from hydrogeologic consulting firms to provide the following services:
- Hydrogeologic testing
- Environmental investigation
- Evaluation of a potential water source site
- Design of a potential new radial collector well for the Belmont County Water and Sewer District.
Commissioner J.P. Dutton emphasized the importance of staying ahead in water management, particularly following the recent completion of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant.
“We are working to understand our capacity now and what it will be moving forward,” said Dutton. “We recently completed a $30 million water treatment plant, the largest and most expensive project in county history. While that plant is fully operational and performing well, we must look ahead to additional water supply options.”
“This is the beginning of another major water initiative for Belmont County,” said Dutton. “We are committed to ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for our residents.”
Commissioners ask qualified firms interested in participating in this project to submit their credentials and proposals as the county moves forward with its assessment and planning.
