Drugs and a drone. Belmont County traffic stop lands four people suspected of smuggling in jail

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – A traffic stop in Belmont County early Friday, March 28, led to four local people landing in jail on multiple drug charges and being investigated for smuggling contraband into Ohio prisons.

Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack’s Criminal Interdiction Unit executed the traffic stop on Interstate 70 Friday during which K9 Ruger was deployed for a free air sniff around the vehicle, resulting in a probable cause search.

During the investigation, law enforcement uncovered approximately 115 grams of suspected cocaine, a drone believed to be used for smuggling drugs into the prison system, as well as U.S. currency and two loaded firearms. Additional contraband, including cell phones, tobacco, and tools considered illegal within prison walls, were also located.

The individuals arrested were identified as Romina Harris, 30, of Steubenville, Ohio; Anthony Sims, 39, of Steubenville, Ohio; Tiron Law, 19, of Steubenville, Ohio; and Traymarr Moten, 20, of Steubenville, Ohio. All four suspects face multiple felony charges, including drug possession, drug trafficking, possession of criminal tools, and having weapons under disability.

Given the substantial amount of drugs found, the suspects are expected to face charges under the “Major Drug Offender” section of the Ohio Revised Code.

The investigation was carried out by the Criminal Interdiction Unit, in collaboration with the Ohio Organized Crime Investigation Commission, and was supported by several local and state agencies, including the St. Clairsville Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Jefferson County Drug Task Force, and the Steubenville Police Department. Zusack thanked the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s office of investigative service for their dedicated work.
