UHRICHSVILLE, Ohio — A plane crash in Tuscarawas County late Tuesday afternoon has left one person dead, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
Authorities report that a 1973 Cessna 310Q, a fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft, crashed into a farm field in Mill Township near Uhrichsville shortly after 5 p.m. The aircraft had taken off from Harry Clever Field airport in the New Philadelphia area less than 30 minutes before the incident occurred.
The pilot was the lone occupant onboard but did not survive the crash. The deceased has yet to be identified.
Emergency responders, including members of the New Philadelphia and Warwick Township fire departments, were dispatched to the scene. The plane was engulfed in flames upon impact, prompting an extensive firefighting effort. Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s deputies also provided assistance at the crash site.
Officials have notified both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will be conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
