STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Steubenville Municipal Court will be closed on Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21 due to ongoing construction work at the courthouse. This temporary closure is part of a broader renovation project aimed at upgrading the historic city building.
The renovation includes extensive remodeling of the Municipal Court clerk’s office, which has been added to the project’s scope. Judge John Mascio authorized an additional $61,000 from the court’s special projects fund to cover the cost of the clerk’s office upgrade.
The overall renovation project, awarded to Fort Steuben Maintenance, encompasses various improvements, including updates to the probation office, main hallway, restrooms, and police department facilities.
The Municipal Court hears Criminal and Civil matters that occur in the City of Steubenville. The Court’s jurisdiction in Criminal matters covers all misdemeanor charges, both Criminal and Traffic, as well as Felony matters for the purpose of Preliminary Hearing only. In Civil matters, the Court’s jurisdiction includes a Small Claims Division (under $6000.00) and General Division for matters up to $15,000.00.
Court officials advise the public to plan accordingly and note that regular court operations will resume on Tuesday, April 22. For more information or updates, visit the City of Steubenville’s official website.
