TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio – Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell issued a press release regarding a possible murder-suicide.
On Sunday, June 1 at approximately 1336 hours, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call reporting a shooting at 2011 Gordon Road NW in Dover Twp.
The caller advised that she was at the home getting ready for a graduation party for a resident in the home when shots went off in the home. The graduation party was for a child who resided in the home but was not in the home at the time because the party, which had not yet begun, was to be a couple of hundred yards away from the home on the property. The caller indicated that the male in the home just shot his wife and then shot himself.
Deputies responded and located one 54-year-old male deceased lying on his bed and a 53-year-old female on the floor near the bed. Dover Fire responded as well and began life saving measures immediately on the female who was eventually Transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton where she was later pronounced deceased.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Detectives and the Sheriff’s Office Crime scene technician responded to the scene as well as the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
The Sheriff says while there is still evidence to process and information to gather, preliminary indication suggests that murder-suicide is the most likely cause due to evidence and witness statements at the scene.
The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for determining the manner and cause of death for the male and they will work alongside the Stark County Coroner’s Office who will be responsible to determine the manner and cause of death for the female since she was actually pronounced deceased in Stark County.
The sheriff is not releasing the names of the deceased at this time until all of the family members are notified.
