HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. -For the third consecutive year, the Newell Community Improvement Coalition (CIC) is teaming up with the Newell Volunteer Fire Department for the community’s annual Newell Fun Day this Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Newell Community Center, formerly the Wells Building.
Shannon Giambroni, NCIC spokeswoman, explained the fun starts at 11 a.m. with a dunk tank, cornhole tournament, bump basketball and various inflatables and food trucks.
A foam party will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Route 45 band will entertain the crowd from 1 to 3 p.m.
Giambroni urges all wanting to participate in the water parade to register and begin lining up at 6th and Grant streets.
“There will be 50-gallon drums of water along the parade route for spectators to continually fill their squirt guns to retaliate against the floats,” she explained, adding that Hancock County Savings Bank has graciously donated 300 squirt guns to give away.
She urged participants to please leave water balloons at home. Floats will be judged with first-prize winners getting an opportunity to win a one-year pass for the Wayne Six Toll Bridge. A few spots still are available. Register at www.newellcoalition.org.
The Newell CIC also is hosting a raffle with all proceeds benefitting future Fun Days.
One grand prize will be drawn before the parade worth in excess of $1,500, including cash, gift cards and containing prizes such as a fire pit, canopy, beach wagon, stays at Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort and Tomlinson Run State Park.
Tickets can be purchased at the event or by contacting Giambroni at (304) 479-0141 at a cost of either $10 each or three for $20. The winner need not be present.
