The Action Continues Tomorrow Night in Bellaire

BELLAIRE, Ohio – The James D. Watts Memorial Basketball Tournament continued to draw crowds in Bellaire, celebrating the life of a man remembered as both a community leader and a mentor.

James D. Watts Sr., known for his work as a preacher and his passion for inspiring others through basketball, left a lasting impact on the Ohio Valley. The tournament bearing his name brought together nine teams from across the region, including entrants from Canton, Ohio, and Washington, D.C., all competing for a $3,000 grand prize.

Organizers say the event is about more than the competition.

“It comes from the heart, man,” said tournament organizer Rick Leigh. “It comes from the love we have for the community and our people… bringing everybody together in a peaceful atmosphere where everyone’s having a good time, eating good food, listening to music, and watching good basketball.”

Additional prizes will be awarded to the top finishers — $1,500 for second place, $1,000 for third, and $500 for fourth.

The championship game tips off tomorrow night at the Bellaire Basketball Courts, with the community invited to come out, cheer, and celebrate.
