Ohio Governor Hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy Calls for Overhaul of State Budgeting, Joins Property Tax Debate

DAYTON, Ohio – Republican Ohio Governor hopeful Vivek Rameswamy added his voice to the property tax debate while speaking at an Ohio Chamber forum at Wright State University in Dayton on Wednesday, framing the tax debate as part of a comprehensive overhaul of Ohio budgeting practices.

Ramaswamy, a 2024 presidential candidate who positioned himself as a political outsider, did not outline specific tax reform measures but signaled support for citizen-led efforts to curb or eliminate property taxes.

A proposed constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes in Ohio seems likely to go before Buckeye State voters on the November 2026 ballot. Brian Massie of the Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes announced Wednesday that the group has met its petition signature goal to place the amendment before Ohio voters next year.
