GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio – Four suspected illegal aliens from Venezuela ended up in ICE custody after crashing their Mercedes and fleeing from authorities Saturday in Guernesy County, according to Guernsey County Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden.
Paden said that late in the evening on Saturday, August 30, deputies observed a Mercedes sedan traveling eastbound at a very high rate of speed on Interstate 70.
The vehicle exited at milepost 178, failed to negotiate the turn, and crashed, sustaining disabling damage. When deputies approached the car, it was unoccupied. Deputies heard what they say was the sound of individuals fleeing through the woods toward Dozer Road.
Authorities launched a coordinated search with support from the Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit, K9 Unit, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Cambridge Police Department.
Four Venezuelan nationals were located and apprehended while hiding in a heavily wooded area. Here are the names of those arrested:
- Jesus Castro
- Alexander Daniel
- Junior Guillen
- Rosman Medina
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) confirmed that the individuals did not have legal status in the United States. A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer was filed, and ICE agents later took custody of the subjects.
Sheriff Paden issued the following statement:
“The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is committed in the relentless pursuit of criminal interdiction. Any individual that my deputies come into contact with who are in this country illegally and eligible for federal agents to take custody of, will be done so without hesitation.”
