The Powerball® jackpot has climbed to an eye-popping $1.30 billion, making it the fifth-largest jackpot in the game’s history and the ninth-largest among all U.S. lottery jackpots. The next drawing is set for Wednesday night, with the prize carrying an estimated cash value of $589 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the game.
The jackpot rolled over after no ticket matched all six numbers in Monday’s Labor Day drawing. The winning numbers drawn were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53 and red Powerball 5, with a Power Play® multiplier of 3.
Even without a grand prize winner, the drawing produced several big wins:
- 10 tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million each. The tickets were sold in California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey (2), New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
- 2 tickets — one in Montana and one in North Carolina — matched all five white balls and added the Power Play® option, doubling their winnings to $2 million.
- 124 tickets won $50,000 by matching four white balls plus the Powerball.
- 25 tickets won $150,000 by matching the same combination with the Power Play®.
This Wednesday’s drawing will be the 41st since the jackpot was last hit in California on May 31, 2025. The record for the longest run without a jackpot win is 42 drawings, set in April 2024 when a $1.326 billion jackpot was won in Oregon.
If won, the jackpot winner will choose between a $1.3 billion annuity, paid in 30 installments over 29 years, or a lump-sum cash payout of $589 million — both before taxes.
The next drawing will be held Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
