New Poll Shows Strong Support for Eliminating Property Taxes in Ohio

Columbus, OH – September 2025 — A new statewide survey finds that a majority of Ohio adults would support a proposed constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes if the election were held today.

The poll, conducted by Fallon Research & Communications between August 20–22, 2025, surveyed 500 Ohio adults via secure SMS/text-to-web. Results show 61% in favor, 21% opposed, and 18% unsure about eliminating property taxes. The survey carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3%.

Sub-Group Results

The proposed ballot issue enjoys broad support across most voter sub-groups:

Republicans: 73% for, 14% against

Unaffiliated voters: 65% for, 20% against

Public school parents: 62% for, 25% against

Renters: 63% for, 22% against

Homeowners: 51% for, 29% against

Democrats were the only major group to oppose the measure, with 39% in favor and 37% against.

When those not registered to vote were excluded from the dataset, support dipped slightly, with the “For” side dropping by one percentage point.

What It Means

Although the initiative has not yet qualified for the ballot, the findings suggest that eliminating property taxes is a concept with strong initial appeal. Fallon Research noted that “in the absence of counter-advocacy – which most assuredly will be waged by a robust coalition of public safety forces, school leaders and public employees – the proposed ballot issue to abolish property taxes in Ohio begins with strong support, in concept.”

Analysts caution that while early enthusiasm is notable, a well-funded opposition campaign could alter public opinion significantly. Still, the results underscore widespread frustration among Ohio voters over property taxes and signal growing interest in transformative changes to the state’s tax system.
