Seeing Smoke? It’s Just a Safe Test, Local Officials Say

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Belmont County Water officials announced that smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, and continue throughout the week.

During the testing, residents may notice smoke-like vapor emerging from building vents or from holes in the ground. Officials said the vapor is odorless, safe to breathe, will not stain surfaces, does not pose a fire risk, and will dissipate quickly.

The tests are part of routine efforts to identify defects or leaks in the sewer system.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact the Belmont County Water office at 740-695-3144.
