Ohio Senate Overrides DeWine Veto on Property Tax Provision

COLUMBUS — A majority of Ohio Senators voted Wednesday to override Governor Mike DeWine’s line-item veto concerning property tax legislation.

The override of Line-Item 66 effectively eliminates fixed-sum emergency levies, substitute emergency levies, and replacement levies across the state.

Supporters of the move argued it simplifies Ohio’s property tax system, while critics expressed concern about the long-term impact on school districts and local governments that rely on such levies for stable funding.

The veto override marks a significant legislative clash between the governor and lawmakers over how property taxes should be structured and administered in Ohio.
