Belmont Correctional Inmates Showcase Skills in Pumpkin-Themed Cooking Contest

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Inmates at the Belmont Correctional Institution put their culinary creativity to the test this week in a pumpkin-themed cooking competition.

The event was part of the IN2WORK program, sponsored by food service provider Aramark, which is designed to give inmates hands-on training in the culinary field. Participants prepared a variety of dishes featuring pumpkin as the star ingredient, ranging from savory entrees to sweet desserts.

Prison officials said the competition not only highlighted the talents of those involved but also underscored the value of vocational programs that help inmates prepare for life beyond prison.

The initiative aims to reduce recidivism by equipping inmates with real-world experience in food preparation, inventory management, and other aspects of the food service industry.

Belmont Correctional leaders said they plan to continue hosting similar events, using seasonal themes to keep the program engaging and practical.
