MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — A Moundsville man has been charged with kidnapping following a child abduction incident at the Moundsville Walmart on Tuesday, authorities announced Wednesday afternoon.
Luke F. Henderson was taken into custody without incident at his Grant Avenue residence, according to the West Virginia State Police.
The case originated from a report out of Banner Elk, North Carolina, concerning a missing juvenile. The FBI tracked an electronic device belonging to the child, which indicated the child’s location in the area of the Walmart, prompting law enforcement to respond.
Authorities briefly locked down the store. During the search, officers found the child inside the store with an adult female, who was not considered a suspect. The woman was questioned and provided information that led police to Henderson.
The child was safely recovered and arrangements were made for her return to North Carolina. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released at this time.
