OHIO – Local Ohio voters made their voices heard Tuesday, deciding a number of closely watched local races and levies across Belmont and Jefferson counties.

In Belmont County, voters rejected a levy for Union Local Schools, while approving a 10-year renewal levy to continue funding county mental health services.

In the village of Shadyside, Mike Meintel won decisively, capturing more than 70 percent of the vote to become the town’s next mayor. In Bellaire, Robert Dodrill ran unopposed and will serve as the community’s next mayor.

In St. Clairsville, a tight race for the Fourth Ward City Council seat ended with Mike Kaspar defeating Terra Butler by just 29 votes.

Across the river in Jefferson County, Ralph Petrella will become the next Mayor of Steubenville, while Tracy McManamon and Royal Mayo both secured re-election to their city council seats.

Voters also approved levies to support the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County and a renewal levy for the Indian Creek School District.

In East Liverpool, residents passed levies supporting both the library and city parks.

All results are unofficial until certified during the county canvass.
