MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — A new Sheetz gas station and convenience store is coming to Moundsville.
Mayor Dave Wood told River News the company has completed all the necessary permitting and paperwork to begin construction on Lafayette Avenue, at the site of what was once Joe’s Used Cars — and before that, the Moundsville Elby’s restaurant.
Sheetz has also purchased the adjoining strip mall property and plans to demolish that as part of the project.
According to Mayor Wood, site clearance is expected to begin on or before December 1.
The new Sheetz location will add to competition for drivers’ business, joining Coen Oil, Kroger, and Walmart, all of which currently sell gasoline along West Virginia Route 2 in the city.
Sheetz was founded in 1952 by G. Robert “Bob” Sheetz in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Today, the family-owned chain operates more than 800 stores across seven states.
