Emergency communications in both Belmont and Jefferson Counties are set for major improvements as officials prepare to roll out upgraded 9-1-1 systems and equipment.
Belmont County will use funds from a levy to purchase more than 600 new first responder radios. The upgraded devices include multimedia capabilities, push-to-talk features, and rugged construction designed to withstand extreme environments — a significant boost for fire, EMS, and law enforcement communication in the field.
Jefferson County, meanwhile, will move forward with replacing its entire 9-1-1 system to meet Next Generation 9-1-1 standards, as required by the state. The new technology is expected to improve reliability, routing, and response efficiency for emergency calls.
Both counties say the upgrades are aimed at strengthening public safety and ensuring first responders have the tools they need to act quickly and effectively.
