STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Chief Building Inspector Dave Herron is spending his final day on the job today after announcing his departure from the city.
Herron said he accepted a new position with the Muskingum County Commission, citing his 90-minute commute each way as the primary reason for the change.
City officials say they have an in-house employee who holds an interim building inspector permit from the state and will handle duties while the city works on a longer-term plan.
Herron is credited with helping clear a significant backlog of building permits during his eight months with the city. Officials thanked him for his service and wished him well in his new role.
