JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level Two Snow Emergency as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning due to worsening winter weather and increasingly dangerous road conditions across the county.
Roadways are reported to be extremely hazardous and may be very icy, with blowing and drifting snow creating additional risks for motorists. Authorities are urging residents to drive only if it is absolutely necessary.
“ONLY DRIVE IF IT IS NECESSARY TO DO SO,” the sheriff’s office warned. “Employees should contact their employers to determine whether they are required to report to work.”
The sheriff’s office has already received multiple calls regarding accidents and disabled vehicles on local roadways. Officials are also asking the public to stay off the roads as much as possible to allow emergency responders and road crews to work more safely and efficiently.
“PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADWAY to allow emergency and road crews to work more efficiently and safely,” the statement continued.
A Level Two Snow Emergency means that travel is strongly discouraged. Only those who feel it is necessary should be on the roads, and they should use extreme caution.
