WHEELING — Wheeling police arrested a woman Tuesday at the now-closed homeless exempted camp on charges of trespassing and obstruction. Authorities said the woman had not previously resided at the camp.
The closure of the camp prompted immediate action from local service organizations. Life Hub and the Wheeling Salvation Army opened shelter beds Tuesday to provide temporary accommodations and support for displaced residents.
City officials and charity representatives emphasized that the shelters aim to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals impacted by the camp’s closure, particularly as winter weather approaches.
Law enforcement and service agencies continue to coordinate resources and monitor the situation to prevent further incidents at the former camp site.
