Ohio Lawmakers Advance Major Changes to Recreational Cannabis Rules

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio’s recreational cannabis law could soon undergo significant revisions following the General Assembly’s passage of Senate Bill 56.

The legislation would shift intoxicating hemp products from general retail shelves to regulated medical marijuana dispensaries, tightening oversight on items that contain THC. It would also create a misdemeanor offense for consuming THC-infused gummies in public.

In addition, the bill would prohibit any public place from allowing the smoking, combustion, or vaping of medical marijuana, further restricting where products can be used.

Senate Bill 56 now heads to Governor Mike DeWine, who must decide whether to sign the measure into law or issue a veto.
