JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — Local law enforcement officers are teaming up to support cancer patients through a Cram-a-Cruiser event benefiting the Cancer Dietary Initiative on Saturday, December 13, at the Steubenville Walmart.

Officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserves, and the Steubenville Police Department will be stationed outside the store collecting non-perishable food items. All donations will help stock the Cancer Dietary Initiative pantry, which supports patients undergoing treatment at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center.

The Cancer Dietary Initiative began about five years ago when Dr. Pervais Rahman, Medical Director for Medical Oncology, noticed that many cancer patients were losing weight even during treatment phases when no weight loss should be occurring. At the same time, his son Harris Rahman was searching for a meaningful community service project.

Together, they launched the pantry program, identifying a dozen patients most in need and beginning operations out of the cancer center’s lobby. The initiative provides monthly food distributions, recognizing that proper nutrition is one of the most important factors in successful cancer treatment.

Saturday’s Cram-a-Cruiser event aims to boost the pantry’s supplies and ensure local patients have consistent access to nutritious foods during their treatment journeys.

Community members are encouraged to stop by, donate, and support families fighting cancer in the Ohio Valley.
