TurfCare Issues Layoff Notices to Nearly Half of Its Belmont County Workforce

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — TurfCare has issued layoff notices to approximately half of its workforce at its Belmont County facility near Martins Ferry, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with state officials.

In the notice to U.S. Department of Labor officials, the company said it plans to shut down a blending line at the plant, resulting in the layoff of 46 employees. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect at the end of February.

Company officials indicated the job cuts are tied specifically to the closure of the blending operation. No additional details were provided in the notice regarding whether other parts of the facility will continue operating or if further layoffs are possible.

TurfCare is a lawn care and turf management company that manufactures and distributes products used to maintain grass and landscaped areas.

WARN notices are required under federal law when employers plan large-scale layoffs or plant closures, giving workers and local governments advance notice to prepare for job losses and potential economic impacts.
