West Virginia State Police Assisted in 250 ICE Arrests, Superintendent Tells Lawmakers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police have assisted federal immigration authorities in about 250 arrests since late September, according to Superintendent Major Jim Mitchell.

Mitchell shared the information with state lawmakers during a budget hearing Monday, outlining the agency’s cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The arrests were carried out by ICE between September 20 and 25, with assistance from state troopers.

Mitchell said the State of West Virginia will receive reimbursement from ICE for the support provided by the West Virginia State Police during those operations.

The cooperation was discussed as part of broader budget considerations for the agency, including staffing, resources, and the role of state police in assisting federal law enforcement efforts.
