CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has officially filed to seek another term in the United States Senate.
Capito filed her candidacy in person in Charleston Tuesday, formally entering the race for the upcoming election cycle. She is currently serving her third term representing West Virginia in the Senate.
The Republican primary is expected to be contested, with several opponents already announcing plans to challenge Capito in the GOP spring primary. Details on the candidates and campaign issues are expected to emerge in the coming months.
Capito was first elected to the Senate in 2014 after serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.
