Ohio Awards $10M in School Bus Safety Grants; Local Districts Receive Funding

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin announced $10 million in Ohio School Bus Safety Grants awarded to 371 schools, districts, and county boards of developmental disabilities across the state.

The grants will fund safety upgrades to existing buses and add advanced safety features to new buses, aiming to improve student transportation safety statewide.

Local school districts receiving grants include:

  • Barnesville Exempted Village School District (Belmont County): $9,146
  • Buckeye Local School District (Jefferson County): $43,778
  • Cambridge City School District (Guernsey County): $13,470
  • Claymont City School District (Tuscarawas County): $38,634
  • Columbiana Exempted Village School District (Columbiana County): $27,734
  • East Liverpool City School District (Columbiana County): $127,857
  • East Muskingum Local School District (Muskingum County): $96,252
  • East Palestine City School District (Columbiana County): $32,942
  • Edison Local School District (Jefferson County): $22,596
  • Martins Ferry City School District (Belmont County): $7,767
  • St. Clairsville–Richland City School District (Belmont County): $5,426
  • Steubenville City School District (Jefferson County): $81,863

State officials say the program was created following recommendations from the Ohio School Bus Safety Working Group, which identified ways to further improve bus safety through technology, training, and emergency response.

All schools and districts that applied for funding for eligible safety features received an award.
