DeWine Appoints Styer to Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of Ryan Styer to the Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas, General and Domestic Relations Division.

Styer, of New Philadelphia, will assume office March 2, 2026. He will fill the seat formerly held by Judge Elizabeth Thomakos, who resigned. Styer will serve the remainder of the unexpired term and must run for election in November 2026 to retain the position.

Styer began his legal career as a legal intern in 1996 before becoming an associate at Brian Law Offices in 1998. He later became a partner at Styer Law Offices in 1999. During his time with the firm, he served as Carroll County assistant public defender from 2000 to 2008 and as Newcomerstown village solicitor from 2004 to 2008. He currently serves as the Tuscarawas County prosecuting attorney.

Styer earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics with a minor in philosophy from The Ohio State University in 1995. He received his juris doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 1998.
