Wheeling Police Dept. Mourns the Loss of K9 Sheik

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Police Department’s K-9 Unit is saddened to announce the passing of K9 Sheik.

Sheik was struck by a vehicle in the early morning hours of Feb. 10 on River Road. She was transported to a veterinary hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not at fault.

Sheik, a Belgian Malinois, was born on June 4, 2022, and began her service with the Wheeling Police Department in November 2024. She was trained as a dual-purpose K9, specializing in narcotics detection and patrol duties.

Sheik was the youngest and newest member of the department’s K9 Unit. We thank her for her service to our community.
