COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine doubled down on his support for Haitian refugees Sunday, arguing they are filling critical workforce gaps in the state.
Speaking on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” DeWine said Haitian immigrants are taking jobs that Americans are unwilling to do.
The Republican governor has consistently defended the Haitian community in Ohio amid ongoing national debate over immigration policy. His comments come as some communities in the state have seen significant growth in their Haitian populations in recent years.
DeWine’s position has put him at odds with some members of his own party who have called for stricter immigration enforcement.
