School’s Calling, Steubenville — YSU Open House April 25!

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Youngstown State University will showcase its new Steubenville campus during an open house Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where residents can ask questions and register for programs.

The event marks YSU’s expansion into the former Eastern Gateway Community College site, where the university will launch more than 20 associate and certificate programs this fall.

After Eastern Gateway’s closure was confirmed, YSU was asked to support displaced students. University officials then explored offering programs in the area, examining what equipment remained in the building and what would need updating.

Dr. Jennifer Adams, provost and vice president of academic affairs, said the university consulted with residents and analyzed data from multiple systems to determine which programs would best serve the community. The initiative has been approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, and YSU is working on proper accreditation.

Adams said the absence of a higher education institution creates a void that can drive residents to leave the area. YSU aims to fill that gap and restore educational opportunities to the county.

The university plans to eventually expand offerings to include bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Adams emphasized that YSU will serve diverse needs, from adults returning to college to students with College Credit Plus credits, with programs of varying lengths.

Interested residents can attend the April 25 open house to learn more about available programs and enrollment.
