Ohio Valley Wrestling Legend Bobby Douglas Dies at 83

BRIDGEPORT, Ohio — Just days after local baseball great Bill Mazeroski died, another Ohio Valley sports legend has passed away.

Bobby Douglas, a Bridgeport High School wrestling standout who went on to compete in the 1964 Summer Olympics, died Monday at the age of 83.

Douglas placed fourth in his weight class at the 1964 Olympics, representing the United States on the sport’s biggest stage.

He later built a coaching career that spanned decades at the collegiate level. Douglas led Arizona State to a national championship in 1988 and went on to serve as head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones. He retired from coaching in 2006.

Douglas is remembered as one of the most accomplished wrestlers and coaches to come out of the Ohio Valley, leaving a lasting impact on the sport both locally and nationally.
