Would YOU Drink This? Belmont County Residents Fear Water Unsafe After Tap Runs Milk-White

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Residents near Crescent Road outside St. Clairsville are continuing to report concerns about their tap water after it appeared cloudy and “milk-like” Thursday morning.

A photo obtained by River News shows a bowl of water taken from a Belmont County tap, illustrating the unusual discoloration. The water is serviced by the Belmont County Water and Sewer District.

River News first learned of Belmont County water issues in November 2025, when local residents reported cloudy water but said they were not notified of any boil advisory or water quality warnings. Many residents now say they feel the water is unsafe for drinking, cooking, or even giving to pets.

Back in November, River News uncovered that Belmont County residents were left in the dark about public safety and water issues since the county emergency alert system, Code Red, was targeted in a ransomware cyber attack. River News also learned that nearly 10,000 Belmont County residents who had previously signed up for the alert system had their sensitive personal data stolen and published on the dark web.
