Deputy and Suspect Injured in Latest Crime Incident at St. Clairsville Walmart

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — The St. Clairsville Walmart on Valley Plaza Drive has been the scene of several law enforcement responses in recent weeks.

On Sunday, March 1, a Belmont County Sheriff’s Department Deputy and a suspect were injured following the latest crime inccident at the store.

Keith Tamar Best, of Beachwood, Ohio, faces charges including driver’s license misrepresentation, resisting arrest, assault and obstructing justice after he allegedly attempted to purchase a cellphone using fake identification. Officers were called to the store but Best allegedly fled on foot and resisted arrest. Deputies subdued Best with a Taser. Best and and a deputy were both injured during the incident and were treated for minor injuries and released from the Trinity St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital.

Two other crime incidents also occurred at the St. Clairsville Walmart in February.

In one February incident, Brittany Collins, 25, was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm during an altercation inside the store. She was charged with aggravated menacing and inducing panic and booked into the Belmont County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Earlier in February, deputies responded to a late-night fight between two women that began outside and continued inside the women’s restroom. One woman, reportedly a store employee, was injured and taken for medical treatment.

River News reached out to Walmart’s corporate headquarters Monday afternoon to question security measures for shoppers and employees at the St. Clairsville store.
