Belmont County Officials Say Local Water Is Safe

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Belmont County Water Department officials sent samples of cloudy water collected from a tap outside the St. Clairsville area for testing last week and the results are in…

Officials said the test came back negative for bacteria and is safe to use for cooking , bathing, drinking and other everyday household uses.

The Belmont County Water Department said the cloudiness is due to air in the water pipe lines. But the issue has been occurring off and on since November.

One resident reported experiencing two bouts of skin rashes and cellulitis, with both issues coinciding with the cloudy water. That resident has since been buying cases of bottled water to use for drinking, cooking and giving to pets.

The Belmont County Water Department official said last week that manager Chad Sutton would arrange for the water hydrants to be flushed to remedy the cloudy water.
