HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. – The new superintendent of Hancock County Schools says all schools will remain open for the 2026-27 school year.

Superintendent Walt Saunders told reporters discussion about school closures remains speculation for now as the district works through a reduction in force.

Skeptics on the Hancock County Board of Education argue economic considerations will force closures of buildings at some point.
