Ohio County Man Pleads Guilty in Wife’s Murder, Attempted Arson Case

0

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — A man accused in a deadly domestic incident has entered guilty pleas to multiple charges.

Dwayne Herring, 54, pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, Kathleen, in a duplex on South Front Street on Wheeling Island in March 2025. He also pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his father-in-law.

The attempted arson charge was brought after authorities said Herring left a gas stove on in the home in an effort to cause an explosion. Kathleen’s father discovered her body after entering the duplex and smelling gas. Authorities determined the gas was left on for 18 hours and was concentrated enough in the home to cause a potential explosion and fire.

Sentencing for Herring is scheduled for April 23 with prosecutors requesting a minimum of 19 years in prison for him.
