STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Construction on a proposed affordable housing development in Steubenville has been halted after crews discovered a headstone believed to be about 150 years old on the property.
The project, led by Woda Corporation, was planned for a site near Sunset Boulevard and intended to provide housing for residents age 55 and older.
Following the discovery, city officials, the developer and representatives of the Roman Catholic Church are working together to further assess the site.
Ground-penetrating radar has been brought in to survey the property for additional graves.
Officials say the findings will determine how the project proceeds moving forward.
