WHEELING, W.Va. — A longtime Easter tradition in the Ohio Valley will continue this year after a last-minute sponsor stepped in to support the effort.
Darrell Cummings, Bishop of Bethlehem Apostolic Temple, said the outcome surrounding the church’s annual Easter basket giveaway feels like a miracle.
The event had been in jeopardy due to a lack of funding, but employees at The Health Plan saw news reports about the situation and brought it to the attention of company leadership.
President and CEO Jeff Knight approved the organization stepping in to sponsor the giveaway, citing the church’s decades-long effort to help families in need.
The company is also encouraging others across the region to contribute and support the annual Easter food basket distribution.
Church leaders say the support ensures the tradition of helping local families will continue this year.
