Safe Haven Baby Box Dedicated at Wheeling Fire Headquarters

WHEELING, W.Va. — West Virginia’s sixth Safe Haven Baby Dropoff Box was officially blessed and recognized Wednesday at the Wheeling Fire Department’s newly built headquarters.

The secure box is designed to allow parents to safely surrender an infant. When a baby is placed inside, a silent alarm immediately alerts first responders.

State officials say West Virginia’s Safe Haven law permits parents to surrender infants at designated locations without fear of prosecution.
