WINTERSVILLE, Ohio — Wintersville Village Council has approved the creation of a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), allowing the public to consume alcoholic beverages within a defined section of the village.
Council approved the measure at its most recent meeting, though not without objections from some community members.
The designated area includes both sides of Main Street — from Clear Creek Coffee to Valley Wine Cellar on the north side, and from Wintersville Methodist Church to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on the south side.
Several members of Wintersville Methodist Church spoke against the proposal prior to the vote, expressing concerns about alcohol being consumed near church property. They noted alcohol is not permitted on church grounds and questioned how the rules would be enforced.
