COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Supreme Court ruled Thursday that AEP Ohio does not have to refund approximately $74.5 million collected from utility customers in 2018 and 2019.
In a unanimous decision, the court found that AEP acted properly in continuing to operate two coal-fired power plants through the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation and charging consumers for losses associated with operating the facilities.
The ruling resolves a long-running dispute over whether customers should have been reimbursed for charges tied to the power plants’ operating costs.
