Belmont County Drug Investigation Leads to Arrests, Large Drug Seizure

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A drug investigation conducted April 29 by the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit led to the arrests of two men and the seizure of narcotics and suspected drug proceeds.

Detectives assigned to the Ohio Attorney General’s Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, along with officers from the Richland Township Police Department and St. Clairsville Police Department, encountered two vehicles in a local shopping plaza believed to be involved in a drug transaction.

Authorities arrested Roland Ledford, 45, of Uhrichsville, on charges of trafficking and possession of methamphetamine and cocaine. He was booked into the Belmont County Jail.

Shawn Harris, 52, of Adena, was arrested and transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on outstanding warrants.

During the investigation, detectives seized approximately 24 grams of cocaine, 43 grams of crack cocaine, and 84 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators also confiscated about $26,000 believed to be drug proceeds.

Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack praised the efforts of his deputies and assisting agencies involved in the investigation.

Zusack also thanked officers from the Richland Township and St. Clairsville police departments for their continued cooperation in combating illegal narcotics activity in the region.
