WHEELING, W.Va. — WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital is once again offering its FREE Safe Sitter classes for students this summer, giving young people the chance to learn important life-saving and babysitting skills in a fun, hands-on setting.
The Safe Sitter program is designed for students in grades 6-8, helping prepare them to stay safe when home alone, care for younger siblings, or babysit responsibly.
The instructor-led class includes interactive activities, games, and role-playing exercises, along with practical training using mannequins to teach rescue skills such as CPR and choking response.
2026 Class Dates:
June 11 – Auditorium A
July 15 – Auditorium A
July 31 – Auditorium B
August 13 – Auditorium A
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Officials say the classes are free of charge, but pre-registration is required two weeks before each class date, and spots can fill quickly.
Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, snacks, and a drink.
