Hancock County Schools Facing $6.5 Million Deficit

Administrators with Hancock County Schools say the district is entering the fiscal year facing a $6.5 million deficit.

During Tuesday night’s regular board meeting, officials said the shortfall was discovered following the results of an audit. According to administrators, the district actually began the current fiscal year with a $3.6 million deficit rather than the surplus that had previously been believed.

School leaders said that if the district follows its current fiscal plan, Hancock County Schools could eliminate the deficit by the 2027 school year.
